Toilets FAQs

What is the average life of a toilet?

A well-maintained toilet typically lasts 10 to 15 years, though high-quality models can last over 20 years. The porcelain structure is durable, but internal parts like flappers and valves wear out sooner. If you notice cracks, leaks, or frequent clogs, it might be time to replace the entire toilet.

How to size a toilet seat?

To size a toilet seat correctly, measure from the center of the two bolt holes at the back of the toilet bowl to the front edge. If the length is about 420 millimetres, it's a round seat; around 470 millimetres indicates an elongated seat. Also, measure the width across the widest part of the bowl, typically around 355 millimetres. The standard bolt spacing is approximately 155 millimetres. Accurate measurements ensure the new seat fits well and stays secure.

How much should a good toilet cost?

A good quality toilet usually costs between $375 and $500 for a standard mid-range model. Budget options can start around $125 to $150, while high-end or smart toilets may cost $1,000 to $2,000 or more. If you're hiring a professional, expect to pay an extra $200 to $400 for installation.
