LED Bathroom Mirrors for Stylish Modern Bathrooms

Smelly bathroom drains in Australian homes? Caused by P-trap evaporation, hair buildup. Prevent with stainless steel drain covers, weekly hot water flushes & pop-up waste systems.

Buying your bathroom mirror might be the last task on your to-do list when it comes to remodeling. After spending weeks choosing tiles and debating tapware, I’ve watched multiple clients declare: “We’ll just pick something up from Bunnings on the weekend.” There’s so much more to think about with bathroom mirrors than most people consider.
I’m not going to run down every reason a mirror matters, but if you’re reading this page because you’d like to consider replacing the one in your bathroom, I will tell you that some things really do improve with consideration.

Over my three decades as a designer, bathroom design has moved at a staggering pace. We’ve moved on from those bevelled-edged builder’s basic ones to beautiful integrated styles that do so much more than simply show your face. And honestly? The transformation has been remarkable.
LED mirrors are something special in bathroom design. It’s not just about reflecting yourself back at you — it combines light and utility with a hint of modern elegance that elevates even your most perfunctory tasks. The last thing anyone wants first thing in the morning is bright white lighting, like something out of a hospital! Premium LED mirrors with adjustable colour temperatures are made available so you can have warm light for your evening relaxation and cool light to apply make-up or shave.

But where these mirrors truly shine is on the earliest-morning races of an already early morning: their practical side. The built-in lighting works its way around your face giving soothing light, so you can get straight into the morning routine without having to worry about looking for the right angle and avoiding shadows. My clients often tell me after they have had a great quality LED mirror installed that it is only now, with the luxury lighting, highlight their old bathroom was extremely bad which are some really nice bathroom accessories. There are, of course, also demister panels – no more wiping down the steamed-up glass after a hot shower, and less water marks means less cleaning.

I was keen on our ecological footprint. These mirrors can withstand for decades — 20 years or more, say — to reduce waste and eliminate one more thing to replace. They are not as energy-hungry as conventional lighting but they deliver a light intensity more similar to natural daylight, which is easier on the eyes. That’s a win for your power bill and a win for the planet — I just love it when design comes together like this.
The size of your mirror is more important than you think. A too-small mirror can get lost on a large wall, but one that is too large becomes overpowering in the space. Sometimes I fit the width of the mirror exactly to the vanity on top of which it sits, but personally, I like that it extends out a bit. In the Guest House project – you can watch all of that series on YouTube – I used a slightly wider mirror than the counter and vanity. Not only does this look sexier, but it helps bounce light from the nearby window.

Storage is another consideration. Many mirrors offer clever recessed shelving or hidden cabinets, holding all your everyday items behind clean, sleek lines. It’s astonishing how much storage you can get, without taking up additional space.
These mirrors require professional installation by a qualified electrician, so keep in mind this cost when budgeting how much to spend. Your electrician will ensure the wiring is adequate; however, LEDs consume so little power the issue hardly ever arises with LED mirrors.
Indulge in LED mirrors: They’re one of the smartest investments you can make for a bathroom that's both pretty and practical. Your bathroom deserves to be thoughtfully designed from top to bottom. An LED mirror is a practical product with an attractive appearance, that's what good design is supposed to be.
You should put as much thought into selecting your bathroom’s mirror as you do the other elements of a bathroom. Be patient in finding one that feels best for you — it’s an investment that will improve your everyday life for years to come.
