How minor adjustments in your bathroom, from new decor to the addition of a statement vanity or upgrading to freestanding bath mixers, can transform the space without a complete overhaul.
The bathroom is a room in the house we all must admit (as much as we try to deny) that we spend a fair portion of our waking hours in. Often the first and last room visited, there is nothing worse than a bathroom that doesn’t mirror the aesthetic and vibe of the home.
But when a complete and total overhaul isn’t on the cards - all the kids piling into the ensuite because it’s the only working bathroom is our personal idea of hell - there are still ways to transform your bathroom space with a few carefully-made changes. From something as small as updating fixtures and fittings to finally getting rid of the 100-year old bath, here’s some tips and tricks to breathe new life into your bathroom.

Decor Overhaul

Sometimes all it takes is a lick of fresh paint and some new decorations that can tide us over until the renovation of our dreams. Tired of staring at white paint while cleaning the bath? Bring a fresh and exciting colour into the space: green keeps things young and fresh while a pale blue will have you feeling peaceful and relaxed. Or add some fun design elements with a wallpaper, floral is fun or kids will love a sea theme!
Swapping out the desilvering mirror will also make a space feel brand new, plus it’s nice to be able to see your reflection again. The addition of a new bathroom mirror will bring new life to the room, and with a range of shapes and designs there’s something for every space.
And never doubt the effects of a cute soap dish, toothbrushes holder or set of towels. Beauty belongs in every room, you just have to add it!

Fixtures, Fittings and Finishes

Tired of the drip-drip-drip that haunts you as you try to fall asleep? Only use the hot water tap because the cold has rusted close? New fixtures and fittings will quite literally change your life.
With a whole range of bathroom tapware available, from the traditional pillar tap and single-lever mixers to the contemporary floor-mounted mixer or even sensor taps, there’s something for every design theme and accessibility need. And we haven’t even started on all the different finishes they come in! Nickel, matt black, brushed copper, refined gold … the options are endless and we want one of each.

Vanities Aren’t Vain

Want to make a modern considerable design change? A statement vanity is the renovation move for you. From sleek, modern wall-hung units to traditional freestanding designs, choose a design made from PVC, timber, stone, ceramic or a combination of all of the above!
From a floating timber fluting vanity, to a design that molds into that corner you don’t know how to utilise, to a freestanding installation with double sinks and more drawers than you can count, there is something for every sized space and household.
Have cream walls? Get it in a fun colour. Want to tie it to the other living spaces in your home? Use the same timber as your kitchen island. Want to feel like a popstar? Get it marble - floor to ceiling.

Major Changes

Ready to make a more significant shift to your bathroom? It’s time for a new basin, shower, bath, or all three! These three major fixtures are the design focal point of the room and have the ability to truly transform the space.
Option 1: Install a basin that visitors will lust after (the true goal of home renovation). Whether it’s inbuilt or above-counter; pedestal, floating or free-standing; round, square or organically shaped; the design options are endless. And if you think that the design decision is hard, here are the material options: ceramic, concrete, glass, mosaic, marble, stone and more. With a basin in nearly every colour, shape and material to choose from, there’s something for every aesthetic. There’s even fish shaped!
Option 2: Switch up your shower situation. From something as small as a new shower screen to a whole new shower, the effect of a new showerhead, a room divider in the guise of a shower screen or a whole new way to scrub-a-dub-dub, changes to the shower can transform the bathroom experience.
Option 3: Bathe like royalty in a free-standing bath. In my opinion, there is nothing more luxurious than a bath that is not also a shower or built into the wall. Whether round is your style, or a rectangle shape with clean lines, or a rounded-lip at one end to rest against while you survey your kingdom (bathroom), nothing elevates a bathroom more. Go for something traditional like a claw-foot bath with overflow, keep things sleek and contemporary with an organic-shaped concrete bathtub, or make use of technology and get a spa bath.

The perk of renovation is the ability to change a space in increments. So start small! Paint the walls and add some decorations. Swap in some new fixtures and fittings, they can be reused when the big transformation happens. Retrofit in a luxe basin. Pick out the bath of your dreams and plan the smaller design changes you can start tomorrow around it! Google tells me 1.5 years of our life is spent in the bathroom. It may as well be cute.
