What are the types of basins in the bathroom
In daily life, bathroom basins are a kind of sanitary ware that is used very frequently. So, how much do you know about bathroom basins?
1. Above counter basins
In the bathroom, above counter basins are more common. Generally speaking, most of this kind of wash basin is located under the countertop, and only a small part of the edge is located on the top of the countertop and is visible. Depending on the style you choose, the edges can be very small or large.
Advantages: The above counter basin is suitable for almost any countertop material, including wood and laminate, because the cut is completely covered by the edge of the wash basin, so there is no risk of water damage. Their installation cost is also lower because they do not require the laborious polishing of the cutting edge like installing an under-counter basin.
Disadvantages: It is not easy to clean, you cannot directly wipe the water on the countertop into the wash basin, and the water is easy to splash out when washing your hands.
2. Under-mount Basins
The under-mount basin is a wash basin installed under the countertop, and its edge is also fixed under the countertop, unlike the above counter basin.
Advantages: This creates a seamless and clean appearance because the actual wash basin cannot be seen. Another advantage of the under-mount basin is that water can be wiped directly from the countertop into the wash basin without any obstruction, which is easy to clean.
Disadvantages: Under-mount basins can usually only be used under hard countertops (such as stone), and are not suitable for laminate countertops, because they cannot be sealed against moisture, and their cost is often higher than that of above counter basins.
3. Wall hung basins
The wall hung basin is a basin that is directly fixed on the wall without occupying the countertop space of the bathroom. Its streamlined appearance will bring a delicate and unique feeling to the bathroom space.
Advantages: There is no need to install any cabinets under the wall hung wash basin, which saves a lot of space but also leaves more available floor space, making the bathroom feel larger. In order to allow enough space on the wall to install the wash basin, all pipes must be installed in the wall, so as to keep the wall tidy.
Disadvantages: such a wash basin has no countertop and lacks storage space. Therefore, when choosing a wall hung wash basin, you must consider whether you will need storage space on the countertop.
4. Freestanding basins
If you want a wall hung basin, but the drain pipe in your bathroom must pass through the floor and cannot be changed, then the freestanding basin is your best choice.
Advantages: The pedestal basin occupies a small area, and the base is located between the wash basin and the floor, which can hide any pipes in the bathroom, which is especially suitable for the decoration of small bathrooms.
Disadvantages: Similarly, the freestanding washbasin also lacks storage space, and there is a gap between the wall and the back of the base, so it may be a little difficult to clean.
5. Semi recessed basins
This type of wash basin is rarely seen in home decoration. If your bathroom has limited space, but you still want to store some daily necessities under the wash basin, then such a semi recessed basin may be the best solution.
Advantages: The semi recessed basin looks stylish and beautiful, and looks more coordinated with the cabinets. The most important thing is that it brings you plenty of storage space.
Disadvantages: storage space is limited, and construction and installation are more complicated.
